Privacy Policy

Effective August 17, 2026  ·  Last updated August 17, 2026

Yardstick, a product of North Lakes Consulting, LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”), is built to keep your data on your own machine. This Policy explains what little information the Service does involve, how we handle it, and the choices you have. It covers both the Yardstick software and the yardstickhome.com website (together, the “Service”). By using the Service, you agree to this Policy.

The short version

The recordings, maps, and telemetry Yardstick collects from your robot stay on your computer. We never receive them.

The software’s only routine contact with us is a once-a-day license check that carries a random install identifier, with no robot data and no location, and you can turn off optional diagnostics entirely in Settings.

The website collects the ordinary information needed to sell you a subscription and answer your questions. We do not sell your personal information.

1. Your robot data stays local

Yardstick runs on a computer on your own network and records what your robot does directly to a database on that computer. Your coverage maps, defined areas, recordings, and the telemetry read from your robot are stored locally. We do not receive, store, or have any access to that data. Backups, exports, and who can reach the local page are under your control, in the software’s settings.

2. Information the software involves

2.1 License check

To confirm that a subscription is active and has not been revoked, the software contacts our servers about once a day. This check carries a random install identifier and your license status. It does not include your robot’s serial number, your location, your maps, or any recording. The check is designed to tolerate brief outages so that a problem on our side does not lock you out of software you have installed.

2.2 Optional diagnostics

The software can send anonymous diagnostic information to help us find and fix problems, for example, the app version, your operating system, whether recording is running, and simple counts. This is limited to a defined set of fields and never includes your maps, coordinates, or recordings. You can turn diagnostics off entirely in Settings.

2.3 Downloads and updates

When you download the software or check for updates, our servers receive the ordinary technical information any web request includes, such as your IP address and the version you are requesting.

3. Information the website collects

3.1 Information you provide

When you start a trial, buy a subscription, or contact us, you may provide:

  • Name and email address;
  • Billing information, which is processed by our payment processor, Helcim (we do not store full card numbers on our own systems);
  • Anything else you choose to include when you contact us for support.

3.2 Information collected automatically

When you visit yardstickhome.com, we may automatically collect standard technical information, including your IP address, browser type, operating system, referring pages, the pages you view, and the date and time of your visit.

4. How we use information

We use the limited information we collect to:

  • Verify licenses and deliver software downloads and updates;
  • Process your subscription and send receipts and important account notices;
  • Answer your questions and provide support;
  • Diagnose and fix problems and improve the Service;
  • Detect and prevent fraud and abuse, and comply with legal obligations.

If you opt in to product news or tips, we may send them; you can unsubscribe at any time.

5. How we share information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share information only with service providers who help us run the Service, and only as needed, including:

  • Payment processing (Helcim), to charge your subscription securely;
  • Email delivery, to send receipts, account notices, and support replies;
  • Hosting and analytics, to serve the website and understand its use.

We may also disclose information if required by law (such as a subpoena or court order), to protect our rights or the safety of others, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.

6. Cookies and tracking

The website uses cookies and similar technologies to remember your preferences, keep you signed in, and understand how the site is used. You can control cookies through your browser settings, though disabling them may limit some features. The Yardstick software itself does not use advertising trackers. We do not currently respond to “Do Not Track” browser signals.

7. Your choices

  • Diagnostics. Turn optional diagnostics off in the software’s Settings.
  • Marketing email. Use the unsubscribe link in any marketing message, or contact us. We may still send transactional messages about your account.
  • Access and deletion. Ask us to access or delete the account information we hold about you (see Contact us).
  • Cookies. Adjust or clear cookies in your browser.

8. Data security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical measures to protect the information we hold, including encryption of data in transit (SSL/TLS) and limited access. Because your robot data stays on your own machine, its security also depends on how you secure that computer and network. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Data retention

We keep account and billing information for as long as needed to provide the Service, meet legal and accounting obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When it is no longer needed, we delete or anonymize it. Data stored locally by the software is kept, or deleted, entirely by you.

10. Children’s privacy

The Service is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

11. California privacy rights

If you are a California resident, you have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use it, to request deletion, to opt out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell personal information), and not to be discriminated against for exercising your rights. To exercise these rights, contact us at [email protected].

12. Nevada privacy rights

Nevada residents may opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information as defined under Nevada law. Questions? Contact us at [email protected].

13. International users

We operate in the United States. If you use the Service from outside the United States, any account information you provide will be transferred to and processed in the United States. By using the Service, you consent to that transfer.

14. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy to reflect changes in our practices or for legal or operational reasons. We will post the updated Policy here and update the “Last updated” date above. We encourage you to review it periodically.
